Tattooed Into the Bone

It’s 9:26 p.m.
Alone.
Not entirely, two cats.
But still alone in all the ways that matter.

The healing stages from heartbreak?
They can kick rocks.

Anger?
Shame?
Loneliness?
Is it all just a pattern we replay?

Do you ever really heal from a gut-wrenching heartbreak
especially when it blindsides you?

How do you replace the feelings someone gave you for years...
when they just ripped it all away without warning?

You try to tell yourself things to make it easier.
To make it feel less heavy.
But do those things really help?

Everyone handles heartbreak differently.
But some heartbreaks hurt deeper than others.
Some feel like they tattooed themselves onto your bones.

Eventually, time works for you.
And you start to forget things.

The way they smelled.
The way they talked.
The way their hair was left everywhere.

And eventually...
You find yourself ready
to let someone else in.

How do you cope?
